youth etiquette dinner/mom's & girls/Valentine's day

The laurel class hosted an etiquette dinner a week ago for 48 youth! The girls did a great job planning exactly what they wanted from the speaker to the color scheme to the type of food. We began our evening in the primary room with a short video that we had the Young Men make that showed some 'inappropriate' dinner etiquette. Then we had a guest speaker (a member of the stake young women presidency) speak on proper etiquette. She did a great job! Following her remarks our class president dismissed the youth by table, calling each individuals name as well as who their assigned servers were to be for the evening.

The laurels chose black, white and dark blue to be their main colors. The youth leaders attended in black pants and white shirts to serve as wait staff. We encouraged the youth to have proper dinner conversation during the meal and we had a prize for the most well-mannered table. It turned into a fun but appropriate competition!

Me, Maurie (our laurel class president) and Joanne (laurel advisor).
We had fabulous cooks (the hardest job of all!) that prepared an amazing meal for the youth. Green salad with ranch dressing, white rice and pulled pork. They even made enough dessert so that the youth leaders could sit and enjoy it too.

A photo of our fabulous cooks! Mary, Becky and JoAnn (Erin not pictured but she helped too!)

Last month the laurels were in charge of the combined young women activity. They hosted a mother-daughter gathering with getting to know you better games and yummy refreshments. We encouraged the mom's and girls to come dressed alike. Molly and I just wore Cienega h.s. t-shirts and matching black zip up hoodies with jeans. We could have been more creative with our attire but it had been a long week! We did receive lots of great feedback from both mothers and daughters, everyone had a lot of fun!

We just celebrated Valentine's day! I made chocolate cupcakes with homemade chocolate frosting for the kids as a treat for them when they got home from school.

They also each got their own box of girl scout cookies (except for Molly who didn't want cookies so she got mascara!) :) I love my kiddos!
