I am so excited! I just opened an email regarding a change in the YW theme! Here is what the letter states:
"We are pleased to announce the addition of the attribute of "virtue" to the Young Women theme. This addition will assist young women in developing high moral standards. We invite parents and leaders to teach the doctrine of chastity and moral purity to help each young woman to be virtuous and worthy to make and keep sacred covenants and receive the ordinances of the temple."
It is signed by the First Presidency and dated November 28, 2008.
They also note that YW leaders should immediately include this addition as they repeat the theme and that "Virtue" will be added to the Personal Progress value experiences and projects.
I suppose we will also be getting a new value color!
So now the theme states the following:
We are daughters of our Heavenly Father,
who loves us, and we love Him.
We will "stand as witnesses of God
at all times and in all things, and in all places" (Mosiah 18:9)
as we strive to live the Young Women values, which are:
Faith
Divine Nature
Individual Worth
Knowledge
Choice and Accountability
Good Works
Integrity and
Virtue.
We believe as we come to accept and act upon these values,
we will be prepared to strengthen home and family,
make and keep sacred covenants,
receive the ordinances of the temple,
and enjoy the blessings of exaltation.
I am so excited to be in Young Women as this change is occurring. It makes me want to go re-read Sister Elaine Dalton's General Conference address: A Return to Virtue. This change is truly going to affect young women for good.

Hi there, you don't know, and the truth is I just googled "YW Theme value change virtue" and this post was the very first thing on the list... I had heard some rumors about this, but I still have not seen anything official. Did your stake get an official letter or anything? When I asked our bishop about it tonight at mutual, he said he hadn't heard anything, nor gotten a letter. Just wondering. Thanks!

That's great to hear! But I still have a hard time remembering "to strengthen home and family". I feel so old!
I am glad that the girls will be re-learning the theme while I'm learning it. :-) And what a great and timely addition.
That is so neat! They just keep making it better and better! (: Hope everyone is doing well... I miss you all!
